Course Description:
Athletic Development and Human Growth course will demonstrate an understanding of athletic development and human growth related to physical activity. The class will emphasize the area of children and adolescents. This is a state-approved, lesson-based, online program for human growth and development. This guided, online format will take approximately 10 hours to complete and meets all requirements for this portion of the state-required core subject matter. This online course fulfills part of the requirements for a coaching authorization certificate, which is required for anyone coaching at the junior high or high school level.
Course Outcomes:
- Relate how motor performance is affected by growth
- Describe the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial stages of development of the middle childhood age child and the adolescent.
- Discuss methods of dealing with defeat.
- Describe various techniques to motivate the youth athlete
- Analyze the coaching techniques necessary for each of the above stages
